Post CNY celebration at the office and it was actually fun with all the cultural immersion activities! We did the tossing of the salad (yusheng, lo hei), chinese calligraphy and celebrated the Feb birthday babies. Advance happy bday to M btw :)
The final product of the salad (after adding all the thingies) is surprisingly good. Despite the fact that you have to add different kinds of ingredients and literally toss it on the air (the higher you toss, the more good fortune you will have this year - thats what they said), i loved how it tasted. Sweet, sour and salty...NANO NANO :|Seriously, it was a great salad. Perfect appetizer! Healthy too. We did skipped some of the steps but this is how we did it. The chinese words are the words you have to chant while doing the steps.
Step 1: Say Gong Xi Fa Cai 恭喜发财 (getting rich) on the Yu Sheng 鱼生 on the table.
Step 2: Say Da Ji Da Li 大吉大利 (to be very auspicious) when adding the lime.
Step 3: Say Yi Ben Wan Li 一本万利 (business to be flourishing) when dashing the Yu Sheng with pepper.
Step 4: Say You Shui Duo Duo 油水多多 (business to be flourishing) when adding the oil with plum sauce.
Step 5: Say Jin Yin Man Wu 金银满屋 (to obtain abundant wealth) when sprinkling the peanut powder.
Step 6: Say Pian Di Huang Jin 满地黄金 (to obtain abundant wealth) when adding the flour crisps.
Step 7: Toss the yu sheng as high as you can! :)
Step 7: Toss the yu sheng as high as you can! :)
And here's my take on Chinese calligraphy. FAIL!
It's 'Da Ji Da Li' meaning 'Good Fortune and Prosperity!'
Gong Xi Gong Xi!
