Post Vday Date (part 2 of 4) : The Illusionists

Honestly, I wasn't really a fan of magic shows. Aside from the fact that I find it unreal, my eyes are too slow to catch the tricks. But it's not something I'm completely crossing off my list of things to watch. The boyfie anyway is so up for it so why not give it a try. And so, we've decided it to be our post vday show to watch.
The stage which changes every time there's a big act.
 15minute break - popcorn time!
All in all, it was a great show! I actually enjoyed the whole thing. There were 6 magicians in the show and I would have to say that The Mentalist is the most memorable one. He didn't have any grand tricks that would require loads of props but he was really good. He left me with an unanswerable question - 'How the hell did he do that?' Who knew that mind reading was really a kind of magic. I guess I will never ever find out. Kudos to the rest of the magicians too - The Grand Illusionist, The Escapologist, The Gentleman, The Trickster and the The Anti Conjuror.
I may not have been able to convince Bu to watch Wicked with me but this time it was different. Magic is definitely the answer. :p

Spring Awakening

And you say what dreams are
Wake me in time to be out in the cold
And who can say what we are
This is the reason for dreaming

Things happen for a reason. Probably one of the most used quotes in this lifetime. But yes, it's not by chance what we make life out of. I guess there's really no such thing as coincidence. The choices we make lead us to some divine appointment with someone or something. This is perhaps the biggest takeaway I had when I saw the Spring Awakening musical. There were a lot of social and political stirrings that made it a radical work which challenged the norms and defied social laws and morality. But for me it's fairly simple: whatever you do - love, dream, hate, live or die...it's a continuous journey we choose for ourselves.
The musical was set on the late 1890s. It was of course the time when the 'corruption' of the mind was not acceptable. People were defined by what was taught to them which was just a piece of the whole truth. It tackled a lot of recurring issues which had existed before I was even born - suicide, academic pressure, sex, undefined sexuality, violence and pregnancy. It was actually an eye opener. These issues have long been existing and till now - we haven't had the proper solutions. Nowadays, people tend to blame consumerism and technology on what has become of our youth but in reality, it brings us back to the choices we make.

On a lighter note, I really enjoyed it. It was progressive and real. The thespians at their young age were really astounding! Hands down, they are a talented bunch of young people. Pinoy represent for the lead actress Julia Abueva who played Wendla. The guy who played Melchior, Nathan Hartono has a very lovely voice and an eye candy too. Haha! Their renditions of the original hollywood musical songs were really good. Their voices were a mix of alternative and classical. Their acting skills were really good too. *clap clap*
The stage was well built. It morphs into a different look :)

Just love this photo. I find it haunting, creepy and beautiful all at the same time.

He also did a cover of one of my favorite City and Colour songs. Nice!

Catch them on their last week!

Wicked Saturday at the MBS Grand Theater

It is Wicked time! Yipeee! This one I wanted to see for the longest time - good thing N flew all the way from Manila so instant girl time with my chicas! I must say - it was great and fab! I especially loved Suzie Mathers who played the role of Galinda (later on Glinda - she's maarte that way! lol). She's very effective and funny! But not just her, everyone was very talented!

Who knew that the writer of the novel (where the musical was based) Gregory Maguire already knows the fact of high school life ever since? There's the Queen Bee, the antagonist, the nerd. Cool beans!

A must see! Try catching it at the MBS Grand Theater till April Fools' Day (01 Apr 2012). Click here for the official website.
 The stage!
Together...we're unlimited! Love love my chicas! :D

Here's my favorite song from the musical - of course, Defying Gravity!
