Singapore Biennale 2011

I've always wanted to blog about the Singapore Biennale 2011 when I last visited the open house but was just too busy to do so. Now, I have time. :)

It started when I won a pair of free tickets for the open house. Thanks to my very reliable employer for sponsoring the event  and scoring 300 tix to give away. Went there last May with Bu and it was a very fascinating experience. I love how disturbing the artworks were. It was a different feeling going inside the Singapore Arts Museum. Too bad they didn't allow photos or videos to be taken. The installation art and visuals were definitely amazing!

But of course, the more you say no - the more rebellious people get. So I took some sneaky sneaky photos from my iPhone. :P

Installation art! The sound was creepy. As if you were taken back in WW2 with the sound of marching death and nostalgia.
Pinoy pride! Artist Louie Cordero depicted Filipino syncretism of tradition and religion. It was very chaotic yet engaging.

Some more artists I personally loved are Ryan Trecartin for his visual attempts to communicate with structuring principle and effects of mass media and Candice Breitz for capturing details on identification and emulation.

This song from Massive Attack reminds me of visual representation in a surreal way. Enjoy!
